I have immensely enjoyed reading adoption and family blogs as my family and I have been working towards our adoption. Our journey has been long (2 ½ years to date) and tumultuous. But we are finally nearing end of the “adoption journey” and will begin our “family journey.”
Not too long ago we went to Target to get a few things for the children, still waiting in an orphanage, that will soon be joining our family. One item was a small size 3T dress for Selamawit. The cashier asked my ten year old if it was a new dress for her. While that in its self is funny, the last two years of our uphill adoption “battle” flashed before my eyes. How much of this adoption journey is Bailey going to tell her? I am far too happy to share any amount of detail with any one, but not to the cashier while in checkout line? I imagine hearing “first we were adopting Laxmi from India as my sister, but then….”, and scooted down to the card swipe. Instead all I heard was my daughter explaining “No, it’s a surprise for my sister” Simple as pie!
